CONSERVATION:

Los Angeles Audubon Conservation Campaigns:  We protect birds and their habitat through citizen science volunteers to monitor and protect, through public education and docent programs, policy and planning advocacy, and litigation when necessary.  Ongoing conservation efforts include helping endangered species such as the Western Snowy Plover, and the California Least Tern.

CITIZEN SCIENCE

Los Angeles Audubon leads Los Angeles County in citizen science to monitor and protect habitat for birds and other wildlife through federal, state and local policy, programs and partnerships.

ENERGY AND WILDLIFE

Los Angeles Audubon has been working to resolve the conflicts between wind energy and birds, including a year of effort with the California Energy Commission and California Department of Fish & Game to create guidelines in California to site wind projects to reduce the impacts on birds and bats. We have published a new "Guide to Bird-Friendly Tree and Shrub Trimming and Removal" to inform city authorities, tree-trimming contractors and the general public about the impact on birds by tree-trimming.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Ongoing volunteer opportunites include: Bird Surveys, Public Awareness campaigns around the hazards to birds in the urban environment,  Nature Docents In The Park, Tabling Events at our local parks, Beginning Bird Walk Leader training, Habitat Restoration projects, Conservation Committee and Coastal and local planning committee meetings, and School Visitation classroom presentations.
