California eBird     ebird_smallA real-time, online checklist program, eBird has revolutionized the way that the birding community reports and accesses information about birds. Launched in 2002 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, eBird provides rich data sources for basic information on bird abundance and distribution at a variety of spatial and temporal scales.

Field List of the Birds of Los Angeles County, Checklist [PDF] This is a field list of the birds of Los Angeles County (mainland and offshore waters) . Garrett and Mike San Miguel in July 2006.  Print this [PDF] document on 1 sheet of 8.5 x 14 paper and fold in thirds to include in your field guide.

Great Backyard Bird Count The 2012 GBBC will take place February 17, through February 20. Please join us! The GBBC is a joint project of The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, National Audubon Society (NAS), and Bird Studies Canada.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.

Christmas Bird Counts (CBC) Join in a tradition begun by Audubon over one hundred years ago. Feeder watchers and field watchers, experienced or novice birders can participate and know that your efforts make a difference for science and bird conservation. The CBC season is between Dec. 14 and Jan. 5 each year. Los Angeles area compilers, dates and locations are published for the 112th CBC (2011/2012).
