This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for August 14.

The summering CANVASBACK on the LA River just below Willow Street in Long Beach was reported through August 8.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen briefly along the LA River in Cudahy on August 8, but soon moved on.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER continued on the LA River in Long Beach at the Willow Street crossing through August 9.

Other SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at the Piute Ponds and on the LA River between Bandini Blvd. and Slauson Ave. in Maywood, both on August 9.

Three VERMILION FLYCATCHERS were still near Neenach in the west Antelope Valley on August 8. The most recent report was of an adult male along 290th Street West by the first dirt road north of Highway 138. An adult female was at the intersection of Malinda and 290th.

Five more VERMILION FLYCATCHERS continue at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, being reported through August 9.

A male SUMMER TANAGER was at the Switzer Picnic Area in the San Gabriel Mountains on August 11.

The male INDIGO BUNTING continued at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena through August 11. It has been by the pond in the southeast corner of the basin.
