This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for August 21.

The summering CANVASBACK on the LA River just below Willow Street in Long Beach was reported through August 18.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER continued on the LA River in Long Beach at the Willow Street crossing through August 17. Two more were in Paramount between Alondra and Somerset on August 18 and 19.

Another SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at the north side of Duckbill Lake at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on August 20. A LEAST TERN continues at the Piute Ponds, being last reported on August 15.

A GRAY FLYCATCHER was at the west end of Wheeler Park in Claremont on August 16.

The male INDIGO BUNTING continued at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena through August 16. It has usually been by the pond in the southeast corner of the basin, but can move around the area.

Another male INDIGO BUNTING was observed briefly flying over Big Tujunga Wash on August 18.
