This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for August 28.

A BLACK TURNSTONE was at the Lancaster Water Treatment Plant in the Antelope Valley on August 22. Birders are welcome at the Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant between 7:00AM and 3:00PM. Be sure to check in at the new office location and let staff know that you are birding. From the facility entrance on the north side of Ave. D just east of the 14 Freeway, go north to the second intersection and office parking area. The office itself is at the northeast corner of the building.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was along the LA River in Long Beach on August 23. The bird was seen upstream from the pipe bridge north of Willow Street. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER continued just above Willow Street through August 23.

A BANK SWALLOW was on the LA River below the railroad crossing south of the Del Amo crossing on August 24.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena on August 26. It was in the dry spreading basin on the east side just north of Johnson Field.

The WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW in the Sepulveda Basin was still present on August 25. It has been near the north end of the Wildlife Area by the first paved viewing overlook.

A male SUMMER TANAGER was at Monrovia Canyon Park on August 22.
