This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 8.


A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on September 7. Preserve hours are 10-5 Tuesday through Sunday.

A STILT SANDPIPER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for access) from September 2-3.

An EASTERN KINGBIRD was on San Clemente Island (no public access) from September 1-4.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Vina Vieja Park in Pasadena on September 7.

A LARK BUNTING was on San Clemente Island from September 1-2 and a second one was there on September 5. A BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW was found on the island on September 6.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on September 3 in a sycamore east of unit 5436. This is private property, but birders are welcome. Please be thoughtful of the residents.

VIRGINIA’S WARBLERS were at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach from September 1-5, at Agua Amarga Canyon on the Palos Verdes Peninsula from September 3-5, at Alta Vicente Preserve on the PVP on September 3, and in Pasadena on September 4.

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on September 4 near the center of the park.

A DICKCISSEL (flyover) and a WHITE-WINGED DOVE were at Pt. Dume in Malibu on September 4.
