Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Mono Lake is a striking, saline ecosystem surrounded by desert peaks, volcanoes, and the Sierra Nevada. The lake is one of the most productive habitats on the planet, yet the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power threatened to unravel thousands of years of natural history through water diversions. Changing public trust values ignited a grassroots campaign that protected Mono Lake, affected water use in Los Angeles, and transformed water law in California. The solution remains a rare environmental success story for generations of water users.
