West Antelope Valley Raptors and Less Consequential Birds
NO FEE, *MINIMUM SIGN-UP of 3 Participants* *Sign-up by Nov. 29th end-of-day*

Louis Tucker will lead us viewing the Antelope Valley through the warped lens of his raptor-loving mind. Ferruginous Hawk and Prairie Falcon likely, Golden Eagle possible. Wear warm clothing, bring lunch, and have a full tank of gas. Meet at Denny’s at 6:45 a.m. to carpool. Take 405N to Roxford in Sylmar. Turn right, then right into the Denny’s parking lot at 12861 Encinitas Ave, Sylmar, CA 91342. Trip leaves at 7:00 a.m. Rain in the AV cancels, as decided at Denny’s by Louis. ‘Scopes and FRS radios helpful.

UPDATE as of 10 a.m. Nov. 29th, 2017

Here is an amended tour itinerary. We will meet at Denny's off of the Roxford Exit in Sylmar at 6:45 to carpool and leave at 7 a.m. as planned. Carpooling is strongly suggested as the dirt roads in the AV are easy to travel on, they just pull up a lot of dust. So, if we limit the car caravan, that will be very helpful.
There is a change in approach to the AV. From Denny's, we will go north on the 5 fwy and soon after get on the 14 fwy towards Palmdale and Lancaster. We will exit the 14 fwy at Avenue A and make a left after leaving the off ramp from the 14 fwy. Our trip will start there and head west, making stops at various spots along the way. The trip will end at Quail Lake. The reason for the change is that you will have a better chance of seeing land birds in the morning while it is cooler; and the waterfowl will be sitting waiting for us in the afternoon at the lake. It will be a full day of birding.
